Lettuce Pray

Aaron is not the only picky eater around here. Ben is too. Ben is getting better, although for some reason what he used to like he doesn't anymore with regards to sandwiches. Dinner time is really tough, because I cook healthy food, ya know veggies and potaotes and other such good for you produce. We finally got Ben to try one piece of lettuce the other day. Just one. He knows by now that he should just do it and get it over with because he is not getting up from the table until he does. (that only took about a year to sink in!) He found out that it wasn't really all that bad. Lettuce doesn't really have any taste without the dressing on it, which is how I served it up to him. He chewed it up, swallowed it down with a smile on his face.
Fast forward to today...I'm lying in bed due to my MASSIVE migrane, Ben comes to me and says, "Mom, I like that leaf part of your salad with nothing on it. It wasn't that bad, hardly any taste, just like you said." Then he walks off.
Me and Jason were lookong at each other, like, "what?" So for dinner tonight I gave him some lettuce on his plate. And he was SOOO excited! He gobbled it up! And he ate the yellow squash without being told, and he liked it too! So I said, "Aaron, look at Ben eating his lettuce and squash. You try some"...He said, "no thank you"..."But Aaron, look at Ben"...Ben tells him it tastes fine..no problem. So Aaron agrees to try the lettuce. Then he eats another leaf. He is happy about it too! Then I feed Aaron his squash and he takes it down---- happily.

All that time and energy I have spent telling my picky eaters, just one bite; you HAVE to take one bite; you MUST eat one bite; has finally sunk in and dinner time has become more pleasant now. I REALLY hope it continues. Lettuce pray that it does. We want healthy kids.

Wow, that is quite the break through! Congrats! It is very nice that big brother was so encouraging...always a motivator for the younger ones :).

Ranch dressing makes almost any vegetable more palatable! :) Most of my kids are past the picky-eater stage, but my 8-year old survives on nothing but air and water *sigh*

I can't get them to try any kind of dressing. Not even lemon juice squeezed on anything.

*chuckle* My 14 year old DD likes to remember how in elementary school she was just about the only kid who didn't mind having a salad for lunch. She loves veggies. My DS should eat more fruits and veggies, but he is 19 now soooo.
