A quest for new ears

I am doing lots of research on various devices that would possibly help me hear better. There is a wealth of information out there, and I am just at a crossroads not knowing where to go from here. I am reading articles and testimonies online, and books, and pamphlets and talking with others who have this problem. Every company thinks their product is the best, of course. And I haven't yet come across anyone who is unhappy with the decision they made regarding "fixing" their hearing loss. I will go in February for some extensive testing to try to find out why I have this problem. From there, I can make a decision. As for now, I will continue with the research and reading. It is all very interesting anyway.
The two main devices I am looking into are cochlear implants, which scare me, and middle ear implants which may not be strong enough for me. Hearing aids I have never been satisfied with because all they do is amplify what I can already hear, using a damaged system. In other words they amplify a damaged system...which makes everything sound like the same tinny screechy tone which makes everything indistinguishable from each other, and they are very uncomfortable. I am turned off HA's now I have been trying several pairs over they past couple years. Maybe because I can't make up my mind this means that none of these options are the one for me. Maybe I have a problem that can be fixed another way which I would find out during all the testing I am going to have done. Any thoughts?

I know this area is big on hearing problems with the Deaf and Blind school in Talladega. I know too that they are now using alot of those cohlear impants and they seem to working well. I don't what the criteria is for receiving those implants. After your testing you should know more about what your options are. Why do you have to wait until Feb. for the testing?
